When Is A Good Time To Purchase Insurance?

Understand the industry-The Insurance industry is always changing. Like any company driven by sales there are peak times that customers can capitalize. What many consumers are unaware of is there are certain times of the year that many insurance carriers will have better ratings. Another thing that many consumers are unaware of is that customers who have been with a carrier a while may not receive the same discounts as a new customer. Many insurance carriers are focused on new business and are more willing to give discounts to get this business.

Seasonal Buying-When it comes to Homeowners insurance many companies will put a cap on the amount of policies they will write in a year. So generally during the first quarter customers may receive better ratings than they will in the middle of summer when lots of people are buying new homes. Many times it works the opposite way for insurance carriers if they don’t sell as many policies as they expected. Like any large company many insurance carriers have to make shareholders happy. In order to do this they have to meet their sales goals. So If an insurance carrier sees that they are behind they may lower the rates in the fourth quarter to make sure these expectations are met.

Consumer advocate-The easiest way to take advantage of this market and maximize your savings and coverage is to reach out to a local independent insurance agency like Community First Insurance Agency. Why Does My Insurance Keep Increasing?

The Insurance industry in Alabama is a constantly changing market. Companies continue to increase customers rates as often as they possibly can, as a result of not giving everyone the proper rate originally. Someone who has three tickets should not be getting the same rate as someone who has a clean driving record. However unfortunately because of fraud throughout many companies it happens. Many times agents who work directly for an insurance carrier may find a way to cover up these violations so they can continue to get high commissions. In order to protect yourself against these rate increases you need to be doing a few things.

First you should be trying to get a 12 month rate when possible, this means the insurance companies cannot increase your rates every 6 months. The next thing you should be doing is shopping your insurance with multiple companies each time it renews. When doing this it is recommended that you contact a local agency like Community First Insurance Agency . They will shop your insurance with multiple carriers putting you in a circle of insurance protection. Should I Put My Auto and Home Insurance With The Same Company?

In todays insurance market almost every insurance company markets save significant money when you combine your auto and home insurance or other products. While many of these companies do provide significant discounts for this many times it is not the best situation for the consumer. The first portion is the coverages, these will vary from company to company. Even though one company may offer the multiple policy discount, the coverages might be less or your deductible might be higher. Many companies in Alabama are now requiring a % deductible on homeowners policies. So If you have $300,000 in coverage on your home you might have a $3000 deductible. However if you had your homeowners insurance  with a separate company you may only have a $1000 deductible.
Another area of concern is the chances of your policies being cancelled because of claims. Many carriers will cancel your policies because of multiple claims during a certain time frame. If you have multiple policies with the same company then all your policies could be cancelled. If they aren’t cancelled then the multi policy discount could be removed causing your policy to double sometimes.
Lastly another area of concern is pricing, while these companies advertise multi policy discounts of up to 40% this discount can sometimes not be much of one at all. For example if your getting a 40% discount on a $4000 policy it may still be double than keeping your ingle policy with another company.

To find out if the multi policy discount is truly the best fir for you and your family contact Chris Greene at Community First Insurance Agency in Birmingham, Montgomery, Cullman, Tuscaloosa, and Mobile AL at (205) 451-4294 or chrisgreene@communityfirstagency.com

How Does My Auto Insurance Impact My Home Insurance?

Many people buy auto insurance so quick through someone online or through the phone that many times the importance of coverages are forgotten. What many people do not know is your auto insurance coverage can have a major impact on protecting your home, as well as other assets.
To give a brief description of what these coverages are, you have bodily injury coverage per individual and per accident on your auto policy. While the state of Alabama only requires the state minimum which is $25,000 per individual and $50,000 per accident, this coverages do not properly protect you. If you are involved in an accident with more than one car you could exceed $25,000 in property damage very quickly. Once these coverages are used then an individual could come back and sue you for any difference. In many situations this could involve loosing your home or any assets. Instead it is always recommended that you carry $100,000 per individual/ $300,000 per accident and $100,000 for property. For more information on understanding these coverages contact Chris Greene at Community First Agency in Birmingham, Al (205) 451-4294 or chrisgreene@communityfirstagency.com
